Africa-Press – Angola. The National Youth Council (CNJ) defends continued honoring of the legacy of national heroes and the strengthening of the patriotic sense in the preservation of peace, unity and national reconciliation.
The position was expressed this Wednesday, in the municipality of Cacuaco, by the person responsible for associations, volunteering and social guidance of this youth organization, Américo de Vasconcelos.
According to the source, who was speaking after a visit to the Kifangondo Historical Landmark, it is essential that young people value the work of previous generations and have contact with the existing documentary collection.
He mentioned that, as an institution linked to youth, the CNJ has the responsibility to transmit to this fringe of society “lines” that aim to promote solidarity and patriotism.
The visit was part of the “More citizenship, more Angola” program, alluding to the 4th of February celebrations, and brought together leaders of youth organizations from various political backgrounds and other associations.
There, historical photos are on display, from the battle to the proclamation of national independence, as well as some war material captured by government forces, from opposing troops and mercenaries.
Photographic images of the moment the national flag was raised, in what was then Largo 1o Maio, as well as the inauguration of the first President of the Republic, António Agostinho Neto, and the inauguration of the first Government of Angola, on November 14, 1975, appear also from the collection.
