Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, received Thursday, in Luanda, the American ambassador to Angola, Tulinabo Mushingi, with whom he discussed aspects relating to cooperation between the two countries.

Upon leaving the audience, held at the Presidential Palace, the American diplomat told the press that the meeting was part of periodic exchanges with the Government and aimed to discuss areas of relationship between the United States of America and Angola.

He mentioned that the relationship is growing daily, which is why he discussed with the President the growth of the bilateral relationship, focusing on the pillars of engagement and prosperity, which is expected to continue to increase.

In this sense, he highlighted the embassy’s efforts in commercial diplomacy, with the prospect of attracting private investments, in the form of bringing private companies to Angola that can invest in different sectors.

Along this path, he announced the arrival in Angola, on the 28th of this month, of a delegation from the Senate, made up of eight senators, the body’s largest delegation.

He exemplified the Lobito Corridor, the first phase of which involves the cities of Lobito and Luau, on the border with the DRC, which has financing of around 250 million dollars, financed by the Development Finance Corporation.

In this regard, he reported that they are working with Grupo Carrinho, justifying that the Lobito Corridor not only involves the railway, but also the development of the area, with the intention of associating the agriculture sector.

In addition to the Lobito Corridor, he made it known that his Government is also committed to the rehabilitation and construction of 186 metal bridges in the area, in an investment by Exim Bank, which is already working with Sun África, the Renewable Energy Company.

He recalled the visit to Angola, last week, of a delegation from the North American Ministry of Agriculture, which included around 20 businesspeople, which culminated in the signing of contracts valued at 18 million dollars.

In the area of ​​defense, he said that a meeting of the Defense Commission is scheduled to be held in the next three months in Washington (USA), which is why they invited the Angolan minister for the sector to the meeting and to discuss the acquisition of items with a view to to the modernization of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA).

The issue of Eastern DRC also dominated the meeting, on which he expressed the willingness of the United States of America to continue supporting Angola’s efforts and the Luanda process for the pacification of this country.

He considered President João Lourenço’s leadership to be very important and expressed that the US wants him to continue working on the region’s pacification process.

The celebration of 30 years of diplomatic relations between Angola and the United States of America was also analyzed during the hearing, as well as the prospects for the next 30 years and beyond, hoping for an increasingly brighter future.
