Africa-Press – Angola. Two diamonds weighing 116 and 162 carats, type IIa, were extracted at the Lulo mine, located in the municipality of Chitato, province of Lunda-Norte.
According to a statement from Lucapa Diamonds Company Limited Monday, the two special stones were recovered in mining block 46.
The number of diamonds weighing more than 100 carats recovered in that mine since the start of operations in 2010 makes up to 42.
Reacting to the discovery of the diamonds, the president of the Board of Directors of ENDIAMA-EP, Ganga Júnior, stated that the recovery of the two stones confirms, once again, the potential of the concession, encouraging the mine’s management to intensify its work of prospecting, to increase the project’s reserves and continue to extend its lifespan.
“This type of stone demonstrates to any and all investors the great diamond potential that Angola has, so it would be an added value for them to come and invest in the diamond subsector”, he highlighted.
The mine is operated by Sociedade Mineira do Lulo, made up of the Angolan companies ENDIAMA EP (32%) and Rosas & Pétalas (28%), as well as the Australian company Lucapa Diamond (40%).
