Africa-Press – Angola. The coordinator of the support office for the electoral cycle of Deputies in Huíla, José Miúdo Ndambuka, considered Wednesday, in Lubango, Huíla province, the services offered to patients who come to the “Pioneiro Zeca” Pediatric Hospital to be satisfactory..
The deputy who was speaking to the press, on the sidelines of a visit to the health unit, highlighted that the hospital “has a completely changed and positive image”.
He detailed that Lubango Pediatrics received, in recent years, restoration and expansion works, a fact that is being reflected in the improvement and quality of specialized services provided to patients.
He highlighted that the equipment is suitable for the most common illnesses and also has a well-equipped cardiology service.
However, he regretted the fact that relatives of hospitalized patients insisted on staying in front of the hospital, some even staying overnight, supposedly to find out about the child’s health status or to possibly receive prescriptions to purchase medicines.
“In fact, it is a cultural issue for Africans, the nephew is the one who gets sick, but the whole family comes to accompany them and some even eat at the expense of the hospital, this is worrying, because the funds that exist for the inmates and not for the companions ”, he lamented.
In turn, the director of the Pediatric Hospital of Lubango “Pioneiro Zeca”, Mariana Miguel, thanked the deputies for the visit, as it was possible to take an x-ray, where she presented progress and concerns, ranging from insufficient space, ambulances and technical personnel.
The unit has, among other services, according to the person in charge, pulmonology that deals with diseases, gastroenterology and infectious diseases, serving, in addition to Huíla, patients from Cunene and Namibe.
With a capacity for 140 beds, it has 379 employees, including doctors, nurses and administrative technicians. The most frequent diseases are malaria, diarrheal and respiratory diseases, acute and severe malnutrition.
