Africa-Press – Angola. Angola will have, in 2025, an aluminum factory, to produce, in the first phase, 120 thousand tons, informed, this Thursday, in Beijing, People’s Republic of China, the Minister of Energy and Águas, João Baptista Borges.
Speaking to the press, on the sidelines of an audience between President João Lourenço and the head of the company Hebei Huatong Cable Group, Zhang Wedong, he said that this is a private investment, which is being developed in Barra do Dande, whose construction began this month.
According to the government official, the project will generate jobs for another three thousand people when it is completed in 2025.
“It is a relevant project that allows the transformation of bauxite into aluminum and the manufacture of aluminum electrical cables, locally”, explained the minister.
He considered the initiative relevant for the energy sector, as the factory will consume around 400 megawatts/hour, translated into revenue for the public sector of electricity companies and for the State.
He added that the factory will bring gross revenue of around 139 million dollars/year, making it an important investment for the electricity sector and the country.
Gourd Caculo
Regarding the launch of the first power generation unit of Angola’s largest hydroelectric plant, Caculo Cabaça, he said it is scheduled for the last quarter of 2026.
João Baptista Borges stressed that the project includes four generation units, initially, while the others will be launched at the end of 2027 or beginning of 2028.
According to the minister, with the People’s Republic of China, Angola has credit lines that finance large projects, with particular emphasis on Caculo Cabaça.
The minister also presented another investment, the water and electricity meter factory, a private Chinese investment.
