Africa-Press – Angola. An exhibition of works by several Angolan artists has been taking place, since last Sunday, in the German city of Hamburg, as part of the centenary of the writer Agostinho André Mendes de Carvalho “Uanhenga Xitu”.
The Angolan writer was born in the town of Calomboloca, Icolo and Bengo, on August 29, 1924.
The exhibition is called “Angola: Art, Culture and Tourism” and runs until June 16, 2024.
The sample includes works by Angolans Álvaro Macieira, Oksana Dias, Ginga Artimista, as well as cultural objects from Angola.
Uanhenga Xitu was a nurse by profession, he developed intense political activity within the framework of the struggle for Angola’s independence, proclaimed on November 11, 1975, and was arrested by the then Portuguese Political Police (PIDE) in 1959.
The writer passed away in Luanda, on February 13, 2014, due to illness. Throughout his life he published books such as “Meu Discurso”, “Bola Com Feitiço”, “Manana”, “Os Survivors of the Colonial Machine Depose”, “The Minister” and “Special Cults”.
