Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, received, this Wednesday, in Luanda, the head of the European Union (EU) Delegation in Angola, Rosário Bento Pais, with whom she discussed the strengthening of the strategic partnership, in areas of climate change and regional security.
Upon leaving the meeting, the diplomat said that she explained to her interlocutor that in the environment sector there are very advanced agreements, such as in the protected areas along the Lobito Corridor, signed in February and valued at 45 million dollars.
He highlighted the circular economy, related to the treatment of solid waste in the country’s capital and surrounding areas, as well as recycling around them, in particular plastic, also highlighting the blue economy with sustainable fishing, supporting traditional fishing and protecting of marine biodiversity.
Rosário Bento Pais mentioned that there are several ongoing projects, in addition to those related to the Lobito Corridor, in the interior of the country, agreed with civil society organizations.
As proof, he presented awareness among the population about the role of each citizen, or as a consumer, in the use of plastic, as well as the correct use of water.
As a result of excellent bilateral relations between the Republic of Angola and the European Union, four new projects in the areas of blue economy, circular economy, civil society, justice and governance are underway, in addition to, among others, providing support for the formalization of the economy Angolan.
This financing will be disbursed until 2027 and is part of the Multiannual Indicative Program for EU Cooperation and Development Aid during the period 2021-2027, through the Neighborhood Instrument for Development Cooperation.
The program was approved by the European Commission in December 2021 and covers the priority areas of sustainable economic diversification, transparent, accountable and effective governance, as well as human development.
