Africa-Press – Angola. The United Nations is available to collaborate with the Angolan State during the exercise of its mandate in the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU) in the period 2024-2026.
The availability was expressed by the Assistant for African Affairs of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee, to the Permanent Representative of Angola to the African Union (AU), ambassador Miguel César Bembe, last Tuesday, in Accra, Ghana,
At the meeting, held on the sidelines of the second African Union Reflection Forum on Unconstitutional Changes of Governments in Africa, which ended on the same day, the two interlocutors addressed issues relating to the promotion of peace and security in Africa, according to a press release from the Representation Permanent member of Angola at the AU.
Both analyzed Angola’s efforts to pacify the continent, with emphasis on the Great Lakes Region, with Martha Pobee praising the role played by the Angolan President, João Lourenço, as Champion of the African Union for Peace and Reconciliation, in favor of stability and security in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The note adds that Miguel César Bembe and Marta Pobee also discussed the challenges and opportunities for the implementation of Resolution 2719, of 2023, on the financing of African Union peace support operations, adopted by session 9518 of the United Nations Security Council.
