The acting delegate of the Ministry of the Interior in Cuando Cubango, deputy commissioner José da Cruz Quicuambi “Zifa”, praised, Wednesday, the continued commitment to improving the diet of the penal population, by the local management of the Penitentiary Service, as reason for promoting agricultural activity.

When speaking at the provincial act marking the 45th anniversary of the Penitentiary Service, which is being celebrated today, the deputy commissioner said it was fair to praise and encourage the role that this body of the Ministry of the Interior has played, especially in the focus on agricultural activity, with cereal production , tubers, vegetables, among other products.

He also highlighted the emergence of new agricultural fields, in addition to the existing ones of rice, in an area of ​​166 hectares, of corn and vegetables, in an area of ​​50 hectares, where 170 inmates are involved, in the municipalities of Menongue and Cuito Cuanavale, aiming to improvement of diet.

On the other hand, the provincial director of the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) defended the need for the Penitentiary Service to encourage, among its staff, comprehensive and continuous training, alongside the technical and professional training of the criminal population.

He also requested the need for legal bodies to urgently resolve the advanced state of degradation of the Menongue prisons, which are overcrowded (with 864 inmates, but designed for 500).

In its message, the general coordination of inmates at Cuando Cubango, read by its leader Francisco Liambula, recognized the process of rehabilitation, humanization and socialization that this group has deserved from the MININT body.

In this regard, the criminal population highlighted its inclusion in socially useful brigades, in the literacy process, technical and professional training to promote self-employment and small businesses, as well as inclusion in the teaching and learning system from 5th to 9th grade. with external teachers.

On the other hand, he requested the governor of Cuando Cubango, José Martins, to create better conditions in the local jail, such as beds, mattresses, blankets, sheets, among others.

Meanwhile, the deputy director of the Penitentiary Service in Cuando Cubango, José Matumona, said that to date, 1,614 prison movements have been recorded, including inmates and preventive inmates, nationals and foreigners, as well as 780 legally established releases.

In the field of penitentiary assistance and rehabilitation, the official pointed out the inclusion of 63 inmates in the normal education system, 95 in the literacy program in modules 1,2 and 3, the preparation of 83 processes for parole, of these proposals 66 have already been approved.

He also highlighted the focus on agricultural production to improve the nutrition of the penal population, through the cultivation of cereals, tubers and vegetables, taking into account the positive results that the Penitentiary Service has obtained in each agricultural season.

On the occasion, he thanked the role that churches have played in the evangelization of prisoners, the bodies involved in the administration of justice, the media for their prompt collaboration in publicizing actions aimed at the reintegration of the penal population, among other institutions.
