Africa-Press – Angola. The ADP-Abu Dhabi Ports business group, from the United Arab Emirates, will invest US$251 million in the modernization of the multipurpose terminal at the Port of Luanda, to boost the development of the logistics business in Angola.

The announcement was made this Tuesday, in Luanda, by the Minister of Transport, Ricardo Viegas D`Abreu, at the signing ceremony of the agreement for the concession of the aforementioned “joint venture” terminal between Unicargas (then operator), Multiparques, Authority Port of Luanda and ADP-Abu Dhabi Ports.

He said that Arab investment could reach 410 million dollars over the period of exploration, something that will be determined by market demand, as its location allows for attracting investment for the expected growth in the country’s container volumes, estimated at an average annual rate of 3.3 percent over the next decade.

According to the director, the terminal, with an area of ​​more than 80 thousand square meters, is the main maritime gateway to the country and plays an important role in the Angolan economy, handling more than 76% of the volume of containers and cargo. general of Angola.

Ricardo D`Abreu considered, on the other hand, the Port of Luanda as one of the main transshipment centers for Central-West Africa, allowing access for maritime trade to some countries on the landlocked continent, namely the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.

“These characteristics determined the interest and decision of ADP-Abu Dhabi Ports to move forward with this partnership and become one of the great drivers of international maritime transport to and from our country”, he highlighted.

The official stated that the signed agreements expand and reinforce the Arab group’s presence along the important trade route from Asia to Southern and West Africa.
