Africa-Press – Angola. Thirty mild clinical cases were recorded by the medical and security team deployed at the 16th edition of the African Pure and Open Water Swimming Championship, which ended on Sunday, in Luanda.
By way of summary, the director of the Center for Sports Medicine, Stella Cristiano, told this Tuesday, that the situation occurred due to the prolonged exposure of people to high temperatures, who were promptly assisted.
He explained that during the six days of competition, four in pure swimming (pool) and one in open water (sea), and in the first the team operated with groups of six staff each including doctors, physiotherapists and sports technicians.
In the open water event, there was a team from the captaincy of the Port of Luanda, with 12 security and maritime inspection operatives, assisted with a boat and a watercraft, according to Stella Cristiano.
On the firefighters’ side, ten professionals worked, with seven specialists in the field of diving and three sappers.
The competition, held for the first time in Angola, was won by Egypt, in the men’s category, followed by South Africa (second) and Algeria (third).
Angola finished eighth in the overall medal table, with a silver medal, won by Lia Lima, in the 200m butterfly, with a time of 2min20s22.
In open water, Egypt won in both genders, with second place in the men’s category going to South Africa and third place also to Egypt.
In the women’s category, the South Africans occupied second and third positions.
