Africa-Press – Angola. Financial Investigation and Money Laundering Cases will be discussed and analyzed, today until Thursday, in Luanda, by representatives of the European Union (EU), directors and department heads of the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC).
The seminar on Financial Investigations and Money Laundering, according to a press release, is an initiative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), which aims to empower SIC professionals in the areas of Financial Research and of Combating Money Laundering.
The training action, highlights the document, is part of the Project to Support the Strengthening of the National Asset Confiscation System (PRO-REACT), financed by the European Union (EU)
Asset recovery continues to represent a priority for Angolan institutions committed to combating organized crime and committed to improving and applying best international practices in matters of confiscation.
Angola is committed to implementing the recommendations of the Group of Southern and Eastern African Countries, created to monitor the progress of States regarding compliance with FATF recommendations in jurisdictions, concerning the prevention and combating of money laundering and terrorist financing, which call for the recovery of assets linked to the underlying crimes, including corruption and embezzlement.
The Southern and Eastern African Group of Countries comprises Angola, Botswana, Ethiopia, South Africa, Namibia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Seychelles, eSwatini (formerly Swaziland), Kenya, Zambia, Uganda, Mozambique, Malawi, Lesotho, Mauritius and Zimbabwe.
