Africa-Press – Angola. Angola expects to receive two million tourists per year in the near future, with the implementation of projects to build basic infrastructure and support services for tourism throughout the country, which will make the country one of the main destinations in the Southern and Central African region.

The Secretary of State for Tourism, Hélder Jonas Marcelino, announced this information yesterday, in Luanda, during the 15th edition of thematic sessions “Communicating for Angola”, which addressed the Tourism Promotion and Development Program 2023/2027″.

The government official indicated that in order for the country to reach two million tourists per year, the Executive, within the framework of the Tourism Promotion and Development Program, must guarantee essential conditions such as electricity, telecommunications, connectivity between locations (air , land and sea), drinking water, first aid and support projects for the sector.

According to Hélder Marcelino, the Tourism sector program includes actions that aim to attract national and foreign tourists, such as accommodation, restaurants and similar, travel and tourism agencies, tourist attractions in areas declared to be of tourist interest and potential.

“In the long term, Angola intends to be a Nation open to tourism that values ​​its natural and cultural assets, allowing their enjoyment by national and foreign visitors. In the short term, we intend to make Angola one of the most popular tourist destinations of the Southern and Central regions of the African continent”, he said.

According to the Secretary of State for Tourism, the objective of the Promotion and Development Program is to ensure large-scale direct investment, promote the “Angola Turismo” brand, attract investment in the sector, improve the business environment, and launch a promotional campaign “Together and all for Tourism” to promote Angola’s tourism potential inside and outside the country.

Tourist planning

He highlighted that the Tourism sector program for the 2023/2027 five-year period also includes tourist planning actions in the identified areas, such as Cabo Ledo, Okavango, Kalandula, Namibe and Mussulo, as well as the holding and participation in national and international events attracting investment in tourism.

He added that the program will streamline the visa system for entry into the country, develop infrastructure and public services, ensure the training and qualification of staff to provide services, reinforce physical infrastructure and boost tourism activity in the country.

Hélder Jonas Marcelino said that the Ministry of Tourism’s program also includes the rehabilitation and requalification of 18 tourist resources, strengthening proximity to the Afro-descendant community in the State of Virginia (USA), through the Tucker family, the conversion of two INFOTUR hotels in Cabinda and Luanda, as well as the promotion of Surfing in Namibe, Cabo Ledo, bird watching in Kaza, Kalandula, Sport Fishing in Benguela and Cuando Cubango.

Last year, the country received 133,000 tourists from various countries, notably Portugal, China, India, Brazil, France, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, South Africa and Lebanon.
