Africa-Press – Angola. After arriving in Cabinda, the President of the Republic and the delegation accompanying him met with the local government to learn about the situation in the province and the evolution of projects with a socio-economic impact.
Governor Marcos Nhunga, when presenting the province’s framework to the Head of State, highlighted that it has a positive performance. In terms of execution of projects of the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM),Marcos Nhunga stressed that the province was awarded 153 projects, with the sectors covered being Health, Education, Energy and Water, Road Infrastructure, Housing and Transport.
According to the governor, of the 153 projects that the province has benefited from, 70 are being carried out directly by the provincial government, 15 under the responsibility of the Central Executive, 34 via “eurobonds” and 13 actions are financed by the Investment Fund for Cabinda. (FICA), through the African Investment Bank (BAI).
Another three projects are supported by Ordinary Treasury resources, the same number through the China financing line, five under the responsibility of the Ministry of Energy and Water, one under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and eight supported by the “Oil price differential , called 5 point 5”.
Marcos Nhunga also spoke of a project, financed by Israel’s credit line, which is supporting the construction costs of the future Centrality of Cabinda, which will have 3,000 homes and 180 stores.
“We are performing well and once the projects are completed, they will certainly contribute substantially to improving the well-being of the populations”, predicted the governor, stressing that, in Cabinda, there is no PIIM project at a standstill.
He clarified that of the 70 projects under the responsibility of the provincial government, 42 are in progress, 16 have been concluded, one is in the tender process and three are yet to be started.
Agriculture And Livestock
Governor Marcos Nhunga also informed that Cabinda is the only province with the largest number of pigsties, sheepfolds and chicken coops, thanks to the Agricultural Promotion Program that has been in place for some time.
To ensure food, both for animals and birds, Nhunga announced that the provincial government will promote maize production, as part of the agricultural value chain project. The only setback, he said, is the lack of a logistics center capable of guaranteeing the conservation of both corn and soybeans, which are also planned to be cultivated.
Despite the positive aspects presented, the governor also spoke of some difficulties in the field of roads, having highlighted the Cacongo-Miconge (Belize) section and the road that connects the seat of the municipality of Belize to the Alto Sundi region, which need rehabilitation.
The road that leads to the town of Yabi, south of the city of Cabinda, was also mentioned by Marcos Nhunga, as a road that has long been “crying” for recovery, to ensure the movement of people and goods.
“Since (National) Independence, the population of Yabi has not had a good road. It would be very gratifying if the (central) Government could offer them this gift”, he asked.
According to Marcos Nhunga, another “very serious problem” that the province faces has to do with the constant power cuts, resulting from interruptions in the operation of the Malembo Thermal Power Plant, whose turbines are paralyzed due to lack of maintenance.
