Around 150 teenagers participated in the youth basketball tournament, for both sexes, held on Friday, on the Vila Clotilde court, in Luanda, as part of the visit by North American sports envoys Sheryl Swoopes and Malcolm Lemmons.The former basketball players are in Luanda for a five-day work schedule with clinics and lectures, as part of the initiative entitled “The Crossover to a Bright Future”.
With the support of the US Embassy and São Tomé and Príncipe in Angola, in partnership with the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB) and the mobile operator Africell, the initiative brought together teenagers from clubs in the capital’s communities.
Ants of Cazenga, La Bomba, JLonda Academy, Little Star of Grace, Mizangala Sport, Rosinha of Cazenga, Sequele Sports Center, Kilamba Sports, Scorpions of Good Faith, Camama Basketball, EK of Palanca, Kamba Sport, Vila Clotilde, Xcombatente, Kawnza Club, North Star, Patriot Star and Oligarchs of Camama.
The program aims to promote social inclusion, youth development and health awareness through sport, as well as the transformative role of basketball in communities.
In addition to the deputy press and culture and education attaché of the US Embassy, Benjamin Stevenson, the activity was attended by the FAB race director, Tony Sofrimento, the Africell communications manager, Dinamene Chingolola, leaders and coaches of the training levels.
Yesterday ended with a lecture on the theme of Sport and Nutrition for All, at the Africell headquarters, led by Angolan nutritionist Djamilah Morgado.
