Agostinho Neto International Airport Inaugurates Passenger Flights

Africa-Press – Angola. A Boeing 737-700 from TAAG – Linhas Aéreas de Angola is expected to inaugurate, the start of passenger flights at Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN), in Luanda. The flight is expected to depart at around 8am and return between 10am and 11am, with an expected carry of 169 passengers, 92 on the outward flight (75%) and 77 on the return flight (65%). The aerovane has a capacity of 120 seats. Twelve are executive class and 108 are economy class. The expected load is 490 kilograms on the outward flight alone.

According to recent data provided by the management of the national flag carrier, the Luanda – Cabinda – Luanda route is the one that moves the most passengers domestically.

There are between four and five connections per day, transporting between 400 and 700 passengers overall. The weekly average is 2,500, which amounts to a total of 10,000 per month and a minimum of 120,000 people per year.

If we consider the subsidised prices of tickets to and from Cabinda, of 29 thousand kwanzas, we can assume a weekly turnover of 72.5 million kwanzas. Multiplied by the 12 months of the year, the annual bill for TAAG flights to the northernmost point of the country represents a cash outlay of 870 million.

The connections to and from Cabinda are also a gateway for many entrepreneurs to reach Ponta Negra, a city in Congo Brazzaville, where there is intense trade in clothing and other goods, which are then sent back to Luanda and from there to other parts of the country.

The geographical discontinuity of the territory led the Government to adopt a special regime for the province, which has benefited the local and regional economy at all levels.

The president of the Executive Committee of TAAG, Nelson Oliveira, assured that the company will do everything possible to ensure that operations at the new Airport can improve in all aspects, a way of further valuing the Government’s investments.
