The Angolan ambassador to Egypt, Nelson Cosme, defended, this Thursday, the need to materialize the projects for the promotion and diffusion of the Portuguese language, as a fundamental element for the reinforcement of the presence and affirmation of the CPLP in the concert of Nations.
The Angolan diplomat was speaking at the roundtable on “The importance of the Portuguese language as a working vehicle in international organizations – the contribution of the CPLP”, within the scope of the celebrations of the World Day of the Portuguese Language by the Portuguese-speaking diplomatic community accredited in Egypt.
Nelson Cosme indicated as a way to reach this objective, the permanent political-diplomatic consultation between the Member States of the Community.
“The number of users of the Portuguese language as a means of communication is currently an element of incentive for us to be able to impose the Portuguese language as a working vehicle in different international organizations”, he said.
Alluding to the more than 260 million users of Portuguese as a means of communication on the five continents, Ambassador Nelson Cosme, Coordinator of the CPLP Ambassador Group in Egypt, stated that the fact that the CPLP gathers in within it States that are not originally users of Portuguese as an official language, among staff and observers.
Promoted by the Embassy of Angola, as coordinator of the CPLP group in Egypt, the event brought together diplomats from Brazil, Mozambique and Portugal, as well as Spain, as a guest, and observed the recitation of poetry by Lusophone authors, as well as the exhibition of a video about CPLP countries.
The ambassador of Brazil, António Patriota, highlighted the importance of the axis of diplomacy that defends and promotes peace, spoke of the oceans that connect the countries of the Community, as well as aspects of coordination and cooperation, especially in the economic aspects and capacity building. , bearing in mind the scope of diplomacy and respect for rights.
In turn, Ambassador Manuela Franco, from Portugal, evokes aspects of historical, emotional and cultural continuity, the presence and the great demand of observer countries to integrate the Organization, which can lead the CPLP to be more creative and constructive, as well as how to project both the vision and the perspective of the Community itself.
Angola assumed the rotating presidency of the CPLP in July 2021, during the 26th Council of Ministers of the Community. Its main axes are political-diplomatic consultation and economic cooperation and development, actions that are being implemented by the various sectors, in line with the three pillars of the Community.
Established in July 2009, by the 14th meeting of CPLP ministers, in Cape Verde, the 5th of May is annually celebrated as World Portuguese Language Day, a date on which its cultural and historical importance for the entire Community of Countries of Portuguese language.
