Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan women residing in Switzerland have asked for a quicker processing of documents, mainly identity cards and passports, since the lack of them affects their immigration status and jeopardizes their work situation.
The request was presented to the Angolan ambassador in this European country, Filomena Delgado, during a consultation meeting held in Bern on Saturday, as part of the program of the celebration of the International Women’s Day on March 8.
According to a press release, the women requested the creation of an Angolan school to teach Portuguese and some national languages.
The women stressed the need for the embassy to be close to the Angolan population and asked for improved consular services.
Filomena Delgado, on her turn, promised to forward all the concerns to the different central bodies of the country for resolution.
The diplomat spoke about the history of International Women’s Day, the universal, African and national legal frameworks aimed at protecting women’s rights.
Delgado highlighted the efforts of the Head of State, João Lourenço, to guarantee the rights, equality and empowerment of women, and invited Angolan women to contribute with their knowledge to the social and economic development of the country.
The March 8 program is part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence, which will be celebrated on November 11.
According to official data from the Secretary of State for Migrations (SEM), there are approximately 444 Angolan citizens living in this landlocked country in western central Europe.
