Angola Shares Experiences on Regional Stability

Africa-Press – Angola. The country intends to share at the Brazzaville forum the efforts it has undertaken in favour of regional peace and stability, highlighting the role played by the Head of State, João Lourenço, as the African Union Peace Champion, the president of the National Assembly said on Monday in Luanda.Carolina Cerqueira, who spoke to the press before leaving the country to participate in the 16th Conference of Presidents of the Assemblies and the African Section of the Association of Parliaments of the Francophonie, which runs from Monday until Thursday in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, also highlighted the efforts that Angola has undertaken to promote regional peace and stability, at a time when Africa is facing major challenges.

The parliamentary leader explained that Angola is participating in the event at the invitation of its Congolese counterpart and other partners from the Francophonie, at a time when the Summit will be marked by the analysis of regional integration, economic and cultural development, as well as the discussion of sustainable solutions to problems such as the food crisis, food insecurity and climate change. On the occasion, Carolina Cerqueira highlighted the importance of Angola’s presence at this regional meeting, which is taking place in a context of great challenges for the Francophone countries of Africa.

The President of the National Assembly considered Angola’s accession to the Francophonie, formalized in July 2024, during the 49th Assembly of the organization held in Montreal, Canada, as “an important milestone” in the affirmation of Angolan parliamentary diplomacy, allowing the country to actively participate in the discussions and decisions of the Francophone community on topics such as peace, international cooperation, sustainable development and regional integration.

“We are very honored because this is the first time that Angola has participated in this event, since it was admitted, in July 2024, in Canada, as a full member of the Association of Francophonie Countries, a large community of more than 800 million inhabitants worldwide, the majority of whom are in the African region”, she stressed.

The agenda also includes addressing the prevailing political situation in French-speaking African countries, the status of political transitions (Burkina Faso, Gabon, Guinea-Conakry, Mali and Niger) and access to electricity on the continent. The Angolan delegation is headed by the President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, and includes the deputies Alcides Sakala, Elizandra Wassuca, Bernardo Milonga and the Secretary General of the House of Laws, Pedro Agostinho de Neri.

The Assembly of the Francophonie is an inter-parliamentary organisation made up of 90 sections formed by parliaments and inter-parliamentary organisations that share the French language and acts as a consultative assembly for the Francophonie.

The organisation’s objectives are to represent the interests and aspirations of the peoples of the Francophone community with the Francophonie, to promote democracy, the rule of law and human rights, particularly within the Francophone community, as well as to bring a political perspective to the Francophonie authorities and to convey opinions in agreement with the authorities of that linguistic area.
