Africa-Press – Angola. The 1.° de Agosto team in the men’s competition and the Clube Náutico da Ilha de Luanda (CNIL) in the women’s competition shared the top spot on the podium after winning the Angola Cup in swimming, held on Saturday at the Alvalade Swimming Pool. The military team dominated, scoring 37,726 points. The next closest were CNIL with 27,509 and the Dolphins in third place with 9,717 points. In the women’s competition, the yellow team from Ilha do Cabo gave their opponents no respite, retaining the title with a total of 27,195 points, followed by the red-and-black team with 12,291 and the Dolphins in third place with 7,040 points.

The Angola Cup was also marked by the breaking of records, the first of which was broken in 25 years by Santiago Guimarães, who clocked 24.60. The previous record, set at 25.60, belonged to former swimmer João Aguiar, who is now a coach. In the children’s category, Wezza Morais set a new record of 29.16, the previous record was 20.40. At the end of the competition, the president of the Angolan Swimming Federation (FAN), Ana Lima, praised the performance of the Dolphins, who were officially presented on Saturday with a good performance.”This edition was very well contested and marked by good surprises, the most notable of which was the destruction of the national youth record that had lasted 25 years. This is an indication that the clubs are working to change the current pyramid of the sport. The good competitive level of the Dolphins swimmers was also noticeable, given that they were debutants, but they came with a good number of participants and took third place on the podium for both sexes”, she highlighted.

The director informed that her team is making an effort to hold the opening of the next season in the province of Huambo. “The central plateau offers the conditions to host the activity and we are going to work with the aim of bringing the mass participation to Huambo at the start of the next season.
