Africa-Press – Angola. The Governments of Angola and the Arab Republic of Egypt today mark, at the highest level, a new chapter in their political and economic cooperation relations, with the signing of an agreement in the field of Public Works. The information was confirmed to the press by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, when he was talking about the agenda of the Head of State’s two-day visit to this North African country, at the invitation of the Egyptian President, Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi.
According to the minister, the legal instrument, aimed at Public Works, has already been negotiated and will be signed. Other initiatives aimed at telecommunications and aviation are still under consideration and negotiation.
Téte António acknowledged Egypt’s (quite) distinction in the area of infrastructure. At a time when the country is preparing the International Conference on Infrastructure, within the scope of Angola’s presidency of the African Union, it is important that it demonstrates its interest in financing and building infrastructure.
“Looking at the city of Cairo, we can witness how many steps have been taken in this direction”, praised Téte António.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs considered the visit to be the result of the historical expression between Angola and Egypt, which has been manifested in various ways in the ongoing relationship between the two countries, including the exchange of visits between the two Heads of State. He recalled President João Lourenço’s recent participation in the Arab League Ordinary Summit organized by the Egyptian Head of State, and the latter’s visit, incidentally the first by a statesman from that country to Angola, in 2023.
“We are also talking about the Nation of Abdel Nasser, the Pan-Africanist who greatly helped the liberation movements on the continent, with emphasis on those that culminated in the achievement of National Independence”, said Téte António.
This historic relationship, continued the head of Angolan diplomacy, continues to consolidate, at a time when the country is celebrating “50 years of Independence and is presiding over the African Union”.
On this last point, Téte António also recalled the fact that Egypt has assumed this role, and because it is a country with an established leadership on the continent, whose geographical location places it as a power in the Middle East region.
The Angolan leader reinforced that Egypt has also stood out in major medical challenges, as well as in various specialties in other countries, stressing that Angola has many more areas to explore in cooperation with this country. He said that an agreement has been reached between the delegations of the two countries to hold a meeting of the Joint Commission in Luanda, in order to allow the business community interested in investing in Angola to discover the potential in situ.
In Cairo, the Head of State, João Lourenço, will participate tomorrow in a meeting with the Egyptian business community at the Waldorf Astoria Heliópolis hotel. According to Minister Téte António, Egypt has a very active business community and some of them are already familiar with the national market, while many are interested in getting to know and working in the country.
João Lourenço will visit the “Pharmaceutical City”
The work program for today highlights the visit of the Angolan Head of State to the “Pharmaceutical City”.
Téte António highlighted the production of medicines as one of Egypt’s advantages, as a result of its highly developed pharmaceutical industry. “It is known that many of these medicines are already available in many African countries, and with a certain competitive advantage in terms of prices. There are also advantages in the areas of electricity and agriculture,” he stressed. The cooperation relationship between the two countries, he added, is long-standing. He recalled, in this regard, that many national professionals were trained in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The minister mentioned, within the framework of cooperation, the existence of approximately 20 agreements in various areas.
On the eve of President João Lourenço’s arrival in Cairo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted Angola’s readiness to exchange experiences and deepen the historic relations of friendship, solidarity and trade with the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The head of Angolan diplomacy participated in official talks between delegations from both countries.
According to Minister Téte António, Angola considers it essential to strengthen, expand and consolidate bilateral cooperation with Egypt, especially in the areas of political and diplomatic matters, Defence, Security, Internal Order, Terrorism, Sports, Economy, Health, Education, Technical and Professional Training, in addition to the sectors of Oil and Gas, Finance, Agriculture and Fisheries.
