Benguela Expects to Raise 2 Billion Kwanzas

Africa-Press – Angola. The province of Benguela expects to raise more than 2 billion kwanzas throughout the month of May, as a result of various economic, commercial and cultural activities as part of the celebrations for the town’s elevation to city status. The director of the Provincial Office for Integrated Economic Development, Samuel Maleze Quinda, said that the commemorative programme includes business fairs, agro-industrial exhibitions, cultural events, conferences and tourism promotion initiatives, which should boost local economic dynamics and attract investment.

May represents a symbolic milestone for Benguela, which this month marks another anniversary of its elevation to city status, which occurred in 1617. In addition to its historical and cultural aspects, the date has served, in recent years, as a reason to promote economic development actions and strengthen local identity.

“The month of May has been a true showcase of Benguela’s productive and business potential, boosting sectors such as Agriculture, Fisheries, Industry, Commerce and Tourism”, said Samuel Maleze, stressing that revenue expectations can be exceeded, given the growing participation of economic agents. The mobilization of local businesspeople and the commitment to public-private partnerships have also been highlighted as strategic pillars to ensure the success of the initiatives, which aim not only to raise revenue, but also to create jobs and strengthen the local economy.

More than the reasons mentioned above, Samuel Maleze stressed that Maio makes Benguela a business hub for the region.

For businesspeople and the Provincial Government of Benguela, in the economic area, Maio is a business hub for the province, where potential is highlighted and opportunities are opened to attract investors to Benguela, which is considered the “Mother City of Cities”.

“At last year’s fair, the organizers raised between 1 and 2 billion kwanzas,” he said.
