Africa-Press – Angola. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Angola to the Russian Federation, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Republic of Mongolia, Augusto da Silva Cunha, visited and spent time on Sunday with the management and students of the Ivanovo International Boarding School – Interdom, where more than a thousand Angolan children studied from 1966 to 2002. A statement states that Interdom, also known as the Planet Barometer, was created in 1933 with the aim of welcoming and supporting the children and orphans of fighters against imperialism, colonialism and fascism. Over its 93 years of existence, Interdom has welcomed and educated children from 86 countries, including Germany, Portugal, Bulgaria, São Tomé and Príncipe, Cuba, China, Spain, Angola, Russia and countries in the Middle East. Angolan children began to join Interdom in the city of Ivanova in 1965, among them Manuel Teodoro Quarta, José Eduardo Nelumba, Goodilive Luvualo, José Filomeno Saldanha and Constância Vieira.The former permanent secretary of the National Commission for UNESCO, Manuel Teodoro de Jesus Quarta, was recognized for his artistic talents and participated as an actor in the Soviet film Flaming Treasures on the Cliff, directed by Vladimir Sherstobitov.
The activity of the delegation headed by Ambassador Augusto da Silva Cunha to the Interdom of Ivanovo is part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of National Independence.
The event served as an opportunity for the 15 children from the Angolan community in Russia who were present at the visit to experience an important page in the history of Angola, the training of professionals and international solidarity.
