Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço arrived in Luanda on Thursday (26) from Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium, where he attended the high-level summit on the strategic perspectives of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI), for the 2026–2030 period.
At the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, João Lourenço received by the Angola Vice-President, Esperança da Costa, and other personalities.
When speaking at the summit, the also acting President of the African Union (AU) urged the international community to commit to the Global Alliance for Vaccines in mobilising US$ 9 bln for the 2026-2030 period.
He stressed that with this amount Africa will be able to vaccinate 500 million children and save between 8 to 9 million lives.
In his speech, the Head of State left the message that Africa is not only a beneficiary, but is also ready to be part of the new era of global immunization.
He announced that Angola is implementing an ambitious training program for 38,000 professionals in critical areas to strengthen primary health care.
Also in Brussels, the Angolan Head of State held a working meeting on Wednesday with the European Council Chairperson, António Costa, to discuss bilateral cooperation and the European Union’s (EU) support for the Lobito Corridor, through the Global Gateway initiative.
