Angolan President Sends Message to Mozambican Counterpart

Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço sent a message delivered Thursday in Maputo, to his Mozambican counterpart, Daniel Chapo, expressing solidarity and friendship between the two brotherly states and peoples.

According to a press release, the message was delivered by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, who represented Angola at the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Mozambique’s national independence marked June 25.

During the visit, she was received in an audience by the Mozambican President, with whom the lawmaker discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation and the consolidation of historical relations between the two countries.

Speaking to the press, Carolina Cerqueira said she was carrying a message of solidarity and friendship between the two brotherly states and peoples, highlighting the spirit of brotherhood and the deep ties that unite Angola and Mozambique.

“The leaders of both countries are attentive and committed to the well-being of their peoples, especially in view of the current challenges facing both the SADC region and the world as a whole,” said the speaker of the Angolan parliament.

The president of the parliament also stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral dialogue in favor of peace, so that Angola and Mozambique can assert themselves as strong and convergent voices in regional and international agendas.

Angola–Mozambique Cooperation

Relations between Angola and Mozambique are historic and multifaceted, covering sectors such as defense, agriculture, justice, transport, mineral resources, oil and gas, the sea, health, and tourism.

The two countries have deepened cooperation through bilateral agreements, memoranda of understanding, and regular consultations at the highest level.

Economic cooperation has gained relevance, with an emphasis on stimulating trade, investment, and business mobility.

In May, Angola and Mozambique signed five new agreements in the areas of air transport, health services, and technical cooperation, with the aim of promoting regional integration, connectivity, and new opportunities for joint economic development.

At the political level, both countries also hold regular consultations, aligning common strategies for the promotion of peace, stability, and progress on the African continent.

Celebrations of 50 years of Mozambican independence

The Angolan delegation that traveled to Maputo also included deputies Ruth Mendes and Manuel Augusto.

The presence of the National Assembly Speaker at the celebrations reinforces the historical, political, and diplomatic ties between Angola and Mozambique, nations that share a common history of struggle for independence, solidarity, and regional cooperation.

During her stay in Maputo, Carolina Cerqueira participated in the main commemorative event, held at the Machava Stadium, and took part in the ceremony honoring Mozambican national heroes at the Monument to Mozambican Heroes.

Angola’s participation in the festivities is part of its efforts to consolidate relations with Southern African countries, promoting institutional and parliamentary exchange, as well as strengthening regional integration.
