Africa-Press – Angola. Two political parties recently legalized by the Constitutional Court (TC), PRA-JA Servir Angola and Partido Liberal, announced that they will be present at the march against the rise in fuel prices scheduled for Saturday, 12, by several civil society organizations.
“On behalf of the provincial secretariat of the PRA-JA party in Luanda, I urge all members, friends and supporters of the country’s most inclusive party in the capital to participate in the demonstration in an orderly manner,” says a note from PRA-JÁ Servir Angola, signed by its provincial secretary in Luanda, Serafim Simeão.
The Liberal Party (PL), led by activist Luís Castro, says that its political group will be present at the demonstration, with the gathering at the São Paulo Market, at 1:00 pm.
“I support and will be present at the demonstration on the 12th, organized by civil society in Luanda. It is time to unite, peacefully and firmly, to demand our rights, defend democracy, and build a more just future for all Angolans. Change begins with our voice,” he said.
In recent days, passengers have reported that taxi drivers in Luanda have been shortening their routes, especially at the main boarding points, such as Patriota, Benfica, Rocha Pinto, São Paulo, Desvio do Zango and Cacuaco.
The Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) warned on Tuesday, the 9th, that it would hold taxi drivers who shorten routes and increase fares criminally liable.
It should be noted that the Angolan government increased the price of diesel to 400 kwanzas per liter.
This increase, according to the Executive, is part of the policy of gradually removing fuel subsidies, which aims to align domestic prices with market values.
The measure has generated discontent and concern about the impact on citizens’ daily lives, as well as on the productive sector.
