Diplomat Hears Angolan Community Concerns in Spain

Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Embassy in Spain held a consultation meeting on Friday with the Angolan community residing in Spanish territory, as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of National Independence.

The meeting took place at the premises of the Diplomatic Mission, bringing together association leaders, students, professionals, missionaries and other members of the Angolan diaspora.

Chaired by the Angolan ambassador to Spain, Balbina da Silva, the meeting aimed to strengthen ties between the Diplomatic Mission and the community, listening directly to the desires, challenges and proposals of Angolan citizens in Spain.

During her speech, the diplomat highlighted the role of the community as a “worthy representative of Angola”s effort and resilience across borders” and underlined the Mission commitment to citizen-centered diplomacy, the quality of consular public services and the enhancement of the diaspora as a strategic asset for national development.

Among the commitments made by the Ambassador are the protection of the rights and interests of Angolans in Spain, with special attention to students, professionals, women heads of families and young people in training.

She also pointed out the strengthening of bilateral cooperation with Spain in areas such as education, health, energy, agriculture, tourism and culture;

The promotion of a modern and dynamic image of Angola, in line with the objectives of economic diversification and regional integration.

At the meeting, the diplomat also presented the Embassy plan of activities and reinforced the need for a permanent dialogue with Angolan citizens, identifying as the main concerns of the community the consular registration process, issuance of documents such as identity cards and criminal records.

In turn, Cristina Paulina, representative of the area of psychology and community influence for SG h called for the creation of a social department within the Mission for direct support to Angolans, especially young women in vulnerable situations. She stressed the importance of assistance in the orientation and integration of these citizens in Span.

The Move Angola association, in turn, reiterated concerns such as the legalization of the institution in Spain, support for Angolans in medical consultations with translation, and the proposal to create a “House of Angolan Culture”.

Jean Barnabé, President of the Association for the Progress of the Angolan Nation in Spain valued the Ambassador initiative of proximity and suggested the realization of a business sense to identify Angolan entrepreneurs in the country, as well as support for the creation of a national association of the Angolan diaspora in this country.

The Diplomatic Mission also registered expressions of support from religious congregations and resident missionaries, who made their parishes available to collaborate in social and cultural support initiatives.

Next Steps

Ambassador Balbina Malheiros da Silva reaffirmed the Mission commitment to creating an environment of unity, trust and cooperation. He also highlighted the essential role of Angolan youth, students and entrepreneurs abroad as protagonists of the country development.

As part of the Commemorations of the Fiftieth Anniversary of Independence, various cultural, economic and social activities are planned that will count on the active participation of the Angolan community in Spain.

“We want to walk together. To make Angola”s presence in Spain stronger, not only institutionally, but also in the heart and daily life of each Angolan residing here,” the Ambassador concluded.
