President of the Republic inaugurates today the new headquarters of the National Electoral Commission

Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, inaugurates, this Thursday, the new headquarters of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), in Luanda, an imposing building with three floors built from scratch and with a National Scrutiny Center and an office for the commissioners.

Budgeted at US$44 million, 731,750, the new CNE headquarters is located in the Coqueiros neighborhood, in Mutamba, close to the football stadium of the same name and was built in the same space where the former Mission soft drink factory operated.

When the construction of the aforementioned infrastructure was announced, in July 2020, the spokesman for the National Electoral Commission, Lucas Quilundo, said that the new CNE headquarters will allow the State to save large sums in cash.

He pointed out that, as the current facilities of the CNE were not prepared to accommodate all the services inherent to the institution, they were obliged to rent the Talatona Convention Center (CCT).

“It is for this reason that, at the time of the general elections, the Polling Center was installed at the Talatona Convention Center”, said the CNE spokesperson.

Lucas Quilundo did not specify how much the State spent on renting that space, but said it was not a small amount. “The costs for its occupation, for the long period that the electoral process lasts, are high”, he clarified.

He stressed that the current facilities of the CNE, located at Rua Amílcar Cabral, near Largo da Maianga, are not well accommodated, as it shares space with other entities, such as a bank branch, offices of various entities, public and private. , and with residential areas.
