Africa-Press – Angola. The United States has reduced customs tariffs on Angolan products from 32% to 15%, as part of the new trade strategy of the administration of US President Donald Trump, the Angolan embassy in Washington announced.

According to the statement, the measure “constitutes a historic victory for the economic diplomacy of the Republic of Angola and is the result of an ongoing process of dialogue and cooperation between the Angolan Executive and the North American authorities.”

The reduction was formalized through an executive order from the White House, placing Angola in a restricted group of African countries with a preferential regime of moderate tariffs, it adds.

According to the statement, the new tariff should allow “greater competitiveness of national products in the North American market” and contribute to the country’s economic diversification.

In 2024, Angola exported goods valued at US$351.8 million to the US and imported around US$410.2 million, with a balance favorable to the Americans.

With the tariff reduction, the Angolan government hopes to “rebalance trade and attract new investments,” especially in the agribusiness, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors.

The new tariffs were announced in April, but would have minimal impact on Angola, given that the country’s main export, oil, has not changed.
