Africa-Press – Angola. Twenty children aged between 12 and 15, involved in acts of vandalism and looting during the taxi drivers’ strike in Luanda, were returned to their families on Friday by the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC).
According to SIC spokesperson Manuel Halaiwa, after being heard by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and passing through the juvenile justice room, the minors, including three girls, were formally handed over to their parents, guardians or legal guardians, in the municipality of Cacuaco, because the responsibility for the education and protection of minors lies with the family.
He said that the process aims to reintegrate these minors into the family, so that they can continue their life and education, stressing that the SIC emphasizes the importance of the family in the formation of values and in the monitoring of children.
Speaking to the press, he added that the work of handing over minors continues in other municipalities, with a total of 83 being returned to their families by probably this Saturday.
He explained that the damage caused by the acts of vandalism is being accounted for at a general level, and authorities are discussing ways to support the affected businesses.
The spokesperson said that the SIC director spoke with family members and guardians and urged them to take greater care and attention with their children to avoid similar incidents happening again in the future.
He added that some parents and guardians disapproved of their children’s or students’ behavior, promising to reinforce the educational process so that similar situations do not happen again.
Investigations to hold the adults involved in the crimes accountable continue, according to Manuel Halaiwa.
