UNITA Urges Angolan Women to Advocate for Rights

Africa-Press – Angola. On Saturday, in Viana, Luanda, UNITA president Adalberto Costa Júnior called on Angolan women, particularly those in LIMA, to raise awareness of their rights and responsibilities, aiming for the development of families and the country.

The leader of the country’s second-largest political party was speaking during a meeting of women from LIMA (the party’s women’s organization), which aimed to promote the involvement of women from different social strata in the national political agenda.

On the occasion, the politician expressed his hope that, with this knowledge, women will be able to acquire greater creativity in finding solutions to the most pressing socioeconomic problems they face, as well as in the development of Angolan society.

She encouraged Angolan women not to give up the fight for well-being in the face of difficulties and adversities, as they are the “root” of resistance and the “seed” of hope, encouraging them to increasingly empower themselves, materially and spiritually, aiming at the transformation of families and, consequently, the inclusive destiny of the Nation.ACJ called on LIMA activists and society in general to show greater courage, creativity, solidarity, and discipline in order to hold small charity events. “I want every LIMA woman to be a guardian of democracy,” she stated.

At the opening of the event, LIMA’s national secretary, Cesaltina Kulanda, gave a historical overview of the development of women in the universal and political arena, examining their value, the value of democracy, and the necessary transformations of ordinary citizens in relation to their social conditions.

She recalled that, in the middle ages, women had no status within human relations because their role in the family was matriarchal, serving their husbands and children. This is currently the opposite, encouraging them to continually learn and empower themselves, with a view to the development of the family and the country.

Cesaltina Kulanda added that it is necessary to continually fight in defense of the human person and the observance of human rights, constituting an imperative for the protection of women and the family. The meeting with the Angolan Women’s League (LIMA) also aimed to identify the main concerns and aspirations of women in the areas of health, education, employment, social security and political participation.
