Africa-Press – Angola. The Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, on Wednesday in Kinshasa highlighted Angola’s support for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and its efforts to achieve a peace solution in the east of the country.
Carolina Cerqueira was speaking to the press after being received at the Congolese Parliament by the acting Speaker of that body, Isaac Tshilumbayi Musawu.
On her last day of work in Kinshasa, in her capacity of Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Forum of the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region (PF-ICGLR), Carolina Cerqueira also praised the efforts of the Angola’s President João Lourenço in the peace process in the east of the DRC.
The parliamentary leader, when invited to speak about the PF-ICGLR, reaffirmed the need to foster and create better conditions for this body of the Great Lakes countries to better develop its activities.
At the same time, she emphasized the importance of contributions (funding the organization’s budget) to develop the action plan approved at the Luanda meeting.
At the National Assembly level, Carolina Cerqueira reaffirmed the dynamism of parliamentary diplomacy, which places the issue of peace in the DRC among the priorities of its work programs.
Carolina Cerqueira was also received on Wednesday by the President of the Senate, Sama Lukonde, to whom she introduced the new management team of the organization’s general secretariat, based in Kinshasa.
“We are also here to reaffirm the efforts made to strengthen friendship between the two peoples, the Congolese and the Angolan”, said Carolina Cerqueira, pleased with the warmth and hospitality shown to her delegation by the Senate office.
