Africa-Press – Angola. The city of Lobito, in the province of Benguela, will host, from October 2nd to 4th of this year, the XVI Congress of the Association of Ports of the Portuguese-Speaking countries (APLOP), according to information received Friday.

The conference will have as its theme “Ports of the Lusophone World: Sustainability, Connectivity, and Blue Economy” and is organized by the Association of Ports of Angola (APANG), with institutional support from the Ministry of Transport of Angola.

The activity will include around three distinct panels, namely, Sustainability at the heart of port management, Connectivity and infrastructure investments and The role of ports in promoting the blue economy.

Among the topics that will be discussed, subdivided by the aforementioned panels, emphasis is placed on the approach to the National Strategy for the Sustainability of Angola”s Ports, Transformation of Cape Verde”s Ports – Towards Green, Smart and Resilient Infrastructures, and Port Sustainability.

New Brazilian port and logistics development projects: strengthening Europe-South America connectivity, Ports of Mozambique, Contributions of the Lobito Corridor project for the diversification of the Angolan economy and Ports as open doors for the development of the economy of the sea, are topics that will also be addressed.

Speaking to the press about the congress, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Port of Lobito, Celso Rosas, assured that all the conditions were created for the event.

According to Celso Rosas, the conclave will be attended by about 200 congressmen representing ports in Brazil, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, Cape Verde, East Timor, São Tomé and Príncipe, as well as Macau.

“The objective is to address questions about what constitutes today the importance of ports in the context of the development of countries, where factors related to sustainability, environment, operability of ports in the context of the blue economy, the importance of ports keeping up with modernity and, above all, the importance of the human factor in the functionality of ports,” he said.

The Association of Portuguese-Speaking Ports was formally created on May 13, 2011.

Its creation resulted from the desire of the ports of the Portuguese-speaking countries to defend their interests, promote the development and modernization of their infrastructures, strengthening cooperation and trade between their member states.
