Africa-Press – Angola. The Kaixepa mine, located in the municipality of Lucapa, Lunda-Norte Province, produced 90,000 carats of diamonds in the last eight months, ten percent more than expected for this period.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, the deputy general director of the Kaixepa Mining Company, Adérito Gaspar, emphasized that the previous production plan for this period was initially around 80,000 kilograms.

He added that as a result of this performance, the annual forecast was changed from 135,000 to 145,000 carats, representing a 7% increase related to what was planned.

The officials also assured that despite the drop in diamond prices on the world market, the company has ruled out any possibility of laying off workers or suspending contracts.

“Although this situation has a direct impact on our operations, we are not considering laying off workers or suspending contracts. On the contrary, we are considering increasing our workforce by 10% this year,” he said.

The company currently employs 930 people.

Regarding environmental protection, the director said the company has been focusing on the recovery and redevelopment of exploited areas, reforestation, the establishment of tree shelterbelts and water and soil protection.

According to Adérito Gaspar, the Kaixepa mine that has a concession area of 75 hectares, regarding social responsibility, has been focused on education, water, health, and access roads.

However, currently the country has 54 projects under exploration and restructuring, while 25 mining companies are in operation.
