Minister Highlights João Lourenço'S Role in Global Gateway Forum

Africa-Press – Angola. The minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, stated on Wednesday (08) in Brussels, Belgium, that the participation of the Angolan Head of State and AU Chairperson, João Lourenço, in the II Edition of the Global Gateway Forum, scheduled for Thursday (09), aims to strengthen strategic partnerships between the European Union and the African continent.

Speaking to the Angolan press on the sidelines of the conference being held under the auspices of the European Union, Téte António emphasized that Angola’s presence at this platform stems from the country’s recognition as a strategic partner of the European Union in Southern Africa.

The Angolan statesman, who arrived in Brussels on Wednesday (08) afternoon, will be the event’s 2nd speaker, following European Commission Head Ursula von der Leyen.

According to Téte António, this partnership has already produced concrete results, highlighting the signing of four financing agreements worth US$90 million during the Angola–European Union Business Forum, held in Luanda.

These agreements cover areas such as the blue economy, circular economy, justice, and governance, with a focus on strengthening institutional capacities.

“The Global Gateway is an initiative that aims to create structural conditions for sustainable development, promoting investment in energy, digital connectivity, and transportation, essential foundations for economic diversification,” the minister emphasized.

He also revealed that, within the framework of the Forum, Angola plans to sign two new legal instruments, including a US$50 million agreement and another related to the Caála logistics platform in the province of Huambo, strengthening logistics integration and the regional transport corridor.

The event will bring together several Heads of State and Government in a session titled “The State of the World,” during which President João Lourenço will speak immediately after the European Commission Head, Ursula von der Leyen, in her capacity as President-in-Office of the African Union.

Bilateral meetings are also planned between the Angolan Head of State and representatives of countries and international organizations, including the United Nations.

The Forum’s thematic sessions, which began on Tuesday (7) and are scheduled to conclude on the 10th, will address key topics such as energy transition, digital connectivity, transport infrastructure, and the blue economy, areas of particular interest to Angola, according to Téte António.

“We are here to ensure that European investment effectively contributes to creating an environment conducive to sustainable growth and economic transformation in Angola,” concluded the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
