Africa-Press – Angola. The General Labor Inspectorate (IGT) recorded 568 workplace accidents in the Province of Luanda in the first half of this year, compared to 1,794 in the same period in 2024, representing a decrease of 1,226 cases.
The information was revealed this Wednesday, by Vilma Matias, head of the statistics, auditing, and certification department of the Ministry of Public Administration, Employment, and Social Security.
According to the official, the reduction in workplace accidents during the period was due to compliance with occupational health and safety laws and regulations, which include the adoption of preventive measures and the employer’s responsibility to ensure a safe environment.
She said it is necessary to continue strengthening employee protection and safety measures to avoid recording excessively high levels of violations.
The inspector noted that most of the accidents recorded by the agency in the first half of 2025 is in construction, oil, and industrial companies were minor, and only eleven were fatal.
She noted that, in cases of workplace accidents, the employer is responsible for the damage caused and submits an incident report to the IGT.
The General Labor Inspectorate (IGT) is an agency within the Ministry of Public Administration, Employment, and Social Security. Its purpose is to monitor, inform, and guide those involved in employment relationships in the application of regulatory conditions regarding working conditions and relationships.
In carrying out its inspection and oversight activities, the IGT enjoys technical autonomy and independence, and its staff enjoys the powers of public authority.
