Africa-Press – Angola. The Superior Councils of the Judiciary of Angola and Portugal signed on Thursday in Luanda a protocol for the training and development of Angolan judges and judicial officials.
Efigénia Clemente, the presiding judge of the Superior Council of the Judiciary of Angola, and her Portuguese counterpart, João Mariano, signed the memorandum.
Tânia Braz, the Angolan judge who coordinates the Working Group of the 2nd Summit of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), told the press that Angola faces difficulties that have been highlighted. Within the framework of the protocol, she said, the training and development of judges and officials is intended.
Braz said the goal is to work towards a more respected and effective justice system for all, having expressed satisfaction with the results of Angola’s leadership of the Forum of Superior Councils of Justice of the CPLP, whose term ended Thursday. Brazil will take up the chairmanship.
Braz emphasized that Angola focused on strengthening the separation of powers principle and the administrative and financial autonomy of the courts. They also brought digital transformation and technological autonomy to the Superior Councils of Justice and the courts of the participating countries.
“It was a dynamic presidency with some concrete results,” said Braz.
She noted that the Luanda Charter is immediately applicable as the document that CPLP countries will use to strengthen the autonomy and independence of the judiciary.
