Chivukuvuku Congratulates Head of State on Alvor Agreement

Africa-Press – Angola. The president of PRA-JA Servir Angola, opposition party, Abel Chivukuvuku, praised on Sunday in southern Huíla province, the decision by Angolan Head of State João Lourenço to award the signatories of the Alvor Agreement with a commemorative medal marking 50 years of national independence.

These are António Agostinho Neto, Holden Roberto and Jonas Savimbi, all posthumously, who were signatories to the agreements that led Angola to independence, representing the MPLA, FNLA and UNITA, respectively.

Speaking in a dialogue on the state of the country with civil society, the political leader said that in institutional terms, there is still a mentality of denial of history, which is why the PRA-JA welcomes the Head of State’s decision.

‘The idea that everyone should be considered, but Holden Roberto and Jonas Savimbi should not be honoured, was wrong. Fortunately, we have overcome this and we must recognise it,’ he said.

He also said that there is a tendency to think that celebrations are focused on the past, but that in addition to valuing positive things, people should look ahead and think about what Angola wants for the coming years and find a national understanding of this perspective.

He stressed that in these 50 years there have been achievements, but also negative indicators related to the social condition of families in a potentially rich country that still has poor citizens, as well as the problem of centralising powers that should be local.

The politician was accompanied by the party’s vice-president, the director-general of the PRA-JA elections for the 2027 elections, the assistant for the preparation of the 2027-2032 government, among other members of his department.

He has been in Huíla since Saturday, 18th, and during his three-day stay he interacted with vendors at the Mutundo informal market and inaugurated the party’s provincial headquarters.

In addition to dialogue with civil society, the politician has a courtesy meeting with the governor, Nuno Mahapi, on Monday. After Huíla, the president will continue his tour of the provinces of Namibe, Cunene and Huambo, having already visited Cuanza Sul and Benguela.

Other party committees are visiting other parts of the country with the aim of achieving the goal that PRA-JA Servir Angola has set itself, which is to be the government or part of it in 2027.
