Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan President João Lourenço awarded, by decree, the Commemorative Medal of the 50th Anniversary of National Independence, Honor Class, to President António Agostinho Neto, who proclaimed the country’s Independence and first Head of State of Angola.

According to a statement from the Press Service of the Presidency of the Republic issued this Sunday, the medal ceremony will take place on November 11th, at the Republic Square, in Luanda, during the central event commemorating the 50th anniversary of National Independence.

The source states that the distinction recognizes the unique role played by Agostinho Neto in the liberation struggle and in the proclamation of national sovereignty.

It emphasizes that National Independence constitutes the greatest achievement of the Angolan people, the result of the sacrifice, courage, and determination of all those who contributed to the country’s liberation from colonial rule.

The Commemorative Medal of the 50th Anniversary of National Independence was established by Law No. 2/25 of March 18, and is intended to recognize individuals and institutions that, over the years, have contributed significantly to the consolidation of peace, unity, and development in Angola.
