Angola Cereals’ Production Reaches 3.5 Million Tons per Year

Africa-Press – Angola. The country is seeing an increase in cereal production, with an average of 3.5 million tons per year, the director-general of the National Cereal Institute, Maria José, recently reported.

She said that although the production of these crops was severely affected during the armed conflict in the country, there has been a lot of interest in developing this sector, considering that it is a raw material used in industry.

She said that corn represents over 70% of the production of this crop, followed by rice, which is grown in the country and later by assorted kind of millets.

We recognize that the quantity produced in the country still does not meet demand, and the best way to meet the needs of the industries is at least the production of 10 million tons per year.

She stated that the statistical data are a sample of the work of the rural population, and the sector’s challenge is to establish better control over the production of this crop, using data from each province, in addition to evaluating the quality and financial value of these foods.

The opening of the 2025/2026 Agricultural Campaign took place last Friday in the province of Moxico, in a ceremony led by the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano.

The event was held under the motto: “Reconversion of agricultural systems to agri-foods as a guarantee of self-income and the achievement of food and nutritional security”.
