Vice President Visits Angolan Embassy in US

Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice President of Angola Esperança da Costa visited on Monday the country’s embassy in the United States as part of her official visit to the US.

The trip aimed to learn about the main challenges and concerns faced by the institution, with a view to strengthening bilateral cooperation between Angola and the United States.

During the meeting, the Vice President offered words of encouragement and recognition to the diplomatic corps, emphasizing the importance of their role in consolidating friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.

Angolan Ambassador to the United States Agostinho Van-Dúnem reported that the diplomatic mission does not maintain direct contact with Angolan students enrolled in US educational institutions, which has made it difficult to monitor the academic and social progress of these citizens.

“Some students only approach the Embassy when there are community activities or to process documents, such as identity cards,” lamented the diplomat.

According to the ambassador, the Embassy has been conducting awareness-raising activities with Angolan associations and communities to strengthen dialogue and cooperation, although not all students respond positively to the appeal.

To reverse this situation, the ambassador revealed that a meeting was held with the Minister of Higher Education in Luanda, where the possibility of integrating Angolan students abroad under the 300 annual scholarship program was discussed.

The measure, the diplomat explained, aims to foster a stronger connection between students and the Angolan state, encouraging the return and contribution of these professionals to the country’s development.

Agostinho Van-Dúnem noted that some students choose to remain abroad after completing their studies due to the professional opportunities offered by international institutions.

As an example, he cited the case of an Angolan student with a degree in naval and military engineering who currently holds a position of responsibility in the repair of US military vessels.
