Africa-Press – Angola. The National Police dismantled on Monday an alleged prostitution ring comprised of more than 20 Angolan and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) citizens in the border municipality of Luvo, Zaire province.
According to National Police spokesperson Superintendent Luís Bernardo, the dismantling of the group is the result of intelligence work carried out by police officers in the new municipality bordering the DRC.
Three DRC citizens, aged 21 to 32, were arrested; other members of the ring fled. Among those captured was the ringleader, a DRC citizen who recruited her compatriots and other nationals to work as prostitutes in the town. She charged clients 15,000 to 20,000 kwanzas for each sexual encounter and deposited the money into her account.
Bernardo also said that the prostitution ring facilitated the entry of illegal immigrants into the country through the Luvo border crossing. He requested that local authorities continue to collaborate with law enforcement and security forces to discourage this and other crimes in the region.
The municipality of Luvo is 60 kilometers north of Mbanza Kongo, the capital of Zaire Province.
