Angola and Egypt Deepen Cooperation in the Field of Culture

Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Minister of Culture, Filipe Zau, met on Sunday in Cairo with his Egyptian counterpart, Ahmed Fouad Henno, with whom he discussed bilateral cooperation in the field of culture, especially in the training of staff and exchange in the arts sector.

According to a press release sent on Monday, during the meeting, the parties addressed the practical way to establish the intended partnership, establishing, for this purpose, focal points to prepare a memorandum aimed at identifying priority areas of cooperation and consequent signing of agreements.

From the outset, the exchange of information will be conducted by the respective diplomatic representations and technicians appointed for this purpose by the two ministers.

Meanwhile, the parties propose to support each other the participation in projects for the exchange of cultural and artistic events, with emphasis on contemporary arts, aiming at the promotion of African heritage and culture.

Arriving in Cairo last Friday, where he represented the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, at the inaugural ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum, Minister Filipe Zau and his counterpart also spoke about the need to protect tangible and intangible heritage and promote joint cultural events, which contribute to the strengthening of cooperation between the respective peoples and countries.

Cultural management, exchange of traditional arts, including music, heritage preservation and promotion and dissemination of African identity, were also addressed during the meeting, witnessed by the Angolan ambassador to Egypt, Maquento Sebastião Lopes, and cultural technicians from both countries.

On the occasion, Minister Filipe Zau congratulated Egypt and expressed satisfaction for what he described as “stunning”, the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum, and encouraged the continuation of Egypt”s role in the protection and promotion of African cultural heritage.

Also on Sunday, Minister Filipe Zau met with the Director-General of UNESCO, the Egyptian Khaled El-Anany, to whom he provided information on the classification of national heritage, and requested support for the recovery of the collection, national and other countries of the African Union, illegally removed from African countries.

On the same day, the ministerial agenda reserved an audience with the CEO of Arab Contractors – a leading construction company in the Middle East and Africa, Ahmed El-Assar, following contacts initiated for the construction of the Museum of Resistance.

In this regard, Ahmed El-Assar expressed the commitment to notify the Angolan Executive about the ongoing procedures, to make the agreement viable and consequent execution of the project.
