Africa-Press – Angola. Angola is participating, from the fourth to the sixth of this month, in the II United Nations World Summit on Social Development, which is taking place in Doha, the capital of Qatar, with a delegation headed by the Minister of State for Social Affairs, Maria do Rosário Bragança, representing the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.
According to a note, the Minister arrived Monday (3) at Hamad international airport, where she was received by the Angolan ambassador to Qatar, António Coelho Ramos da Cruz, and by the ambassador and representative of Angola to the United Nations, Francisco José da Cruz.
The Summit brings together world leaders, representatives of civil society, the private sector and international organizations, with the aim of reaffirming the commitment to the Copenhagen Declaration and promoting the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
The meeting takes place under the motto “Revitalizing the Global Commitment to Social Development” and focuses on three fundamental pillars: poverty eradication, full employment and decent work, and social integration.
During the event, Minister Maria do Rosário Bragança is expected to speak at high-level round tables that address transversal actions to accelerate progress towards the 2030 Agenda, at a time when global social challenges require urgent and coordinated responses.
The Angolan delegation also includes the Minister of Planning, as well as the Angolan ambassadors to Qatar and the UN.
Among the main topics under discussion are social inequalities, demographic changes, digital transitions and the social dimension of sustainable development, with a view to adopting a new Political Declaration, co-facilitated by Belgium and Morocco.
With its participation, the note indicates, Angola reaffirms its commitment to the objectives of social development, sharing experiences and solutions to face the challenges of implementing the 2030 Agenda.
