Africa-Press – Angola. Nuno Carrilho, representing Huíla province, won the Supermoto FZ-125cc category of the motorcycle race held Sunday in Menongue as part of the city’s 64th anniversary celebrations on October 21.

The competition had 12 participants and took place in a 12-lap race on a circuit specially prepared for the event. Rodry Caldeirão, also from Huíla, took second place, and Bernardo António, representing Cubango province, took third.

The Lingkeny 50cc category race, initially scheduled for two 12-lap races, was interrupted on the fourth lap due to intense rain. Participants received participation prizes.

Speaking to the press, winner Nuno Carrilho expressed satisfaction with his victory. He emphasized that Menongue is one of his “favorite tracks” due to the warm welcome and organization.

“I am very grateful. It’s an incredible city. We were very well received. The track is perfect, and I always give my best. This is my second consecutive victory here, which makes me very happy,” he said.

However, he acknowledged that he faced tough competitors and even fell during training. Nevertheless, he managed to recover and secure first place. He added that his next challenge is to move up to the 600cc class and compete in higher-level races.

In turn, Menongue’s administrator, Simão Pedro Chihinga, highlighted the participants’ discipline, emphasizing that the event aims to popularize motorsports and encourage young people to engage in activities that promote a competitive spirit and camaraderie.

He also stressed that the local government will continue to support initiatives that contribute to the leisure and well-being of young people.

The event was part of the program of festivities for the 64th anniversary of the city of Menongue. The program included various sporting, cultural, and recreational activities promoted by the municipal administration in partnership with local associations and clubs.
