Africa-Press – Angola. A football tournament to celebrate Angola’s National Independence Day, marked (Tuesday), highlighted the November 11th festivities in the Philippines, an initiative of the Angolan Embassy.
The tournament featured the participation of Cameroonian, Congolese, and Angolan communities residing in the Philippines, with Angola emerging victorious with two wins: one 2-1 against citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and another 6-3 against Cameroon.
On the occasion, the Angolan ambassador to the Philippines, Daniel António Rosa, reminded those present of the bravery and patriotic spirit of the forerunners of the struggle for Angola’s freedom.
Ambassador Daniel Rosa stated that the 50th anniversary being commemorated in 2025 should serve as more than just a celebration; it should be a time for profound, methodical, coherent, and sensible reflection on the past, present, and future of Angola, Angolans, and those who visit the country.
Addressing the Angolan community residing in the Philippines, the head of the Angolan Diplomatic Mission in that Asian country emphasized the need to reflect on the past to understand the motivations and ideals of the forerunners of the struggle for independence, looking to the present in order to understand the Angola that exists today and to face the challenges, to envision a better country for future generations.
Ambassador Daniel António Rosa said that, in this regard, the Embassy and the Angolan State count on the strength, ideas, science, creativity, and proactivity of all Angolans residing in the Philippines, so that they can build a good present and have hope for an even better future.
Daniel António Rosa noted that, in this year of 2025, the 50th anniversary coincides with Angola assuming the presidency of the African Union, through its Head of State, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço.He also recalled that Africans were always present at the various decisive moments of the Angolan liberation struggle.
As part of the National Independence Day festivities, the Angolan Embassy in the Philippines has also scheduled a political-cultural event for next Sunday (16).
