Africa-Press – Angola. The country’s artistic community advocated, this Monday in Luena, Moxico province, for the construction of more spaces to promote performing arts, after 50 years of National Independence.
In statements within the framework of the 6th edition of the Tchole Festival, which is taking place in Luena as part of the Independence Day festivities, actress and journalist Solange Feijó said that, after half a century of sovereignty, the country needs more spaces to elevate theater and culture in general. The actress, on the other hand, defended the public management of the few cinema spaces built in the country, considering that “the management of these infrastructures by private entities has hindered the practice of art in the country, especially theater.”
Therefore, she advocated for the integration of the National Theater Association (AAT) into the budgeted units of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to guarantee support for theater groups.
Quim Fasano, known in artistic circles as “Chico Caxico,” an actor for 29 years, highlighted the creation of policies for the economic sustainability of artists in the country.
He said that the Angolan population “has awakened to theater,” a reality that needs to be accompanied by the education of young people and investment in the construction of infrastructure.
