Africa-Press – Angola. Five people have died and 18 families have been displaced in recent days in Uíge province as a result of heavy rains that have fallen on the region.
In statements this Wednesday, the head of the Disaster Risk Reduction Department, Tando Laza, explained that two deaths were caused by floodwaters and three others by lightning strikes, in the municipalities of Uíge and Maquela do Zombo.
He also reported that the rain destroyed 18 homes and displaced 95 people.
Of the total number of homes destroyed, he specified that 13 occurred in the municipality of Quipedro and five in Negage.
In light of the events, Tando Laza advised the population of the region against building in risk zones, as well as seeking shelter in safe places when it is raining.
