MPLA Urges Angolans to Unite and Stay Vigilant

Africa-Press – Angola. The ruling MPLA party called on Angolans to remain united and vigilant in preserving the achievements of 50 years of national independence, urging new generations to be inspired by “the deeds of their ancestors.”

The Declaration of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Angolan national independence, congratulates and urges the Angolan people to preserve the achievements attained “the fruit of the sweat, sacrifice and lives of thousands of patriots who offered everything for the freedom of the Fatherland.”

The party, in power since 1975, the year Angola gained its independence, “pays profound homage and recognition to all those who contributed, with courage and selflessness, to national liberation, reconciliation and the building of an Angola of peace, justice and progress.”To the new generations, the MPLA urged them, in addition to being inspired by the achievements of their ancestors, to “resolutely commit themselves to continuing the struggle for peace, democracy, and national development.”

“Only in this way will we build an increasingly prosperous, supportive, and sustainable Angola, capable of guaranteeing future generations a future of peace, well-being, and dignity,” the statement said. The political organization emphasizes that on November 11, 1975, Angola gained its freedom and affirmed its sovereignty, “after centuries of colonial domination and a long and arduous process of resistance” that indelibly marked the history of the Angolan people.

“These were five hundred years of struggle and suffering, of slavery, deprivation of liberty, and denial of fundamental human rights. But they were also centuries of courage, bravery, and determination, in which women and men, known and anonymous heroes, defied oppression and affirmed the dignity of being Angolan,” it stressed.According to the MPLA, national independence, “achieved through the sacrifice of many, constitutes the highest milestone in the epic of the Angolan people,” representing “the triumph of unity, resistance, and faith in a free and sovereign future.”

The history of the Angolan nation, it emphasizes, has also been marked since 1975 by challenges “in the defense of territorial integrity, national sovereignty, the consolidation of peace, democracy, and social and economic progress.”

“Today, the Republic of Angola, at peace, asserts itself as a thriving nation, confident in its own destiny, which makes its children proud and inspires the African continent.

The country continues firmly on the path of sustainable development, consolidating itself as a pole of economic dynamism and regional stability,” it highlights.

In the statement, the party that leads the Angolan government emphasizes that the executive branch “has promoted public policies aimed at diversifying the economy, strengthening non-oil sectors such as agriculture, industry, and energy.”He also listed public policies aimed at enhancing human capital, including the construction and rehabilitation of schools, universities, and training centers, as well as improvements to the national health system with the building of leading hospitals and modern health units, including investments in strategic infrastructure such as hydroelectric dams, roads, ports, and the Lobito Corridor, “fundamental for regional integration and economic growth.”

“Angola remains open to the world, promoting diplomatic and commercial relations with all countries with which it shares the values of cooperation, peace, and mutual respect, with the purpose of strengthening partnerships that drive national development,” he further emphasized.
