Portuguese President Hails Angola as a “Power” in Africa

Africa-Press – Angola. The President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, on Tuesday in Luanda praised the greatness and symbolism of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Angola’s Independence, considering the country a “power” on the African continent.

Marcelo de Sousa attended the central event of the Fiftieth National Independence anniversary, held in the Republic Square, in Luanda City, a ceremony chaired by the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço.

Speaking to the press, the Portuguese Head of State highlighted the “spirit of unity and diversity” that characterizes the Angolan Nation.

He stated that the parade demonstrated the strength, organization and dynamism of the Angolan people, describing Angola as “a unique reality, made up of many Angolans, united in diversity”.

He stressed that the aforementioned event constitutes proof of the maturity and solidity of Angolan institutions.

The Portuguese statesman also said that Portugal is proud to have contributed, throughout history, to the creation and consolidation of Angola, highlighting that the country was able to assert itself, after independence, as a free, united and strong nation.

“Angola is today a power, an example of determination and progress in Africa”, said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, while thanking President João Lourenço for the invitation and congratulating the Angolan people for the exemplary way in which they have preserved the values of independence and national sovereignty.

The presence of the President of Portugal at the independence anniversary celebrations reinforces the historical, cultural and diplomatic bonds between the two countries, which maintain cooperation based on friendship, mutual respect and joint development.
